You don't have to know any philosophy, or even to have read the text we're talking about to (mostly) follow and (hopefully) enjoy the discussion. saint benedict's table is a church community in the Anglican tradition deeply involved at the intersection of faith and culture. Our monthly ideaExchange series, at a used bookstore in Winnipeg, Canada, explores trends and topics relevant to both the wider culture and to the life of faith. We sponsor a lecture series, recently produced two CDs of music created by community members, published two books and take an innovative look at what being Anglican is all about. Inspired by what Robert Webber calls "the ancient-future," we draw deeply on the great tradition of the church to be free to explore new ground, new music, new futures. Madhukar is a modern master of Advaita (Sanskrit, literally: "not-two").
The essential knowledge of Advaita he spreads through public meetings called Satsang. During a Satsang, Madhukar answers questions of the visitors. Phases of silence, short explanations and cool music that inspire some people to dance are also characteristic. Satsang with Madhukar focuses on direct awakening. They are a radical and loving transmission of truth, often characterized by humor. Main subjects are questions of the conception of our "I", the existence of personal freedom of action and free will as well as the relationship between body and mind and the ability to experience cosmical consciousness. The meetings shall serve self-awareness and inner peace.
