Mystery Science Theater 3000: Moon Zero Two
Simon has had pieces performed by the Schidlof Quartet, PM Ensemble, Gemini and Double Image (amongst others) and also provided music for video and television.
His work has for sometime been concerned with the combination of system and intuition and the constant and the random.
The Music Machines are a number of small, simple programs that generate music within certain parameters, these can be accessed within his website www.simonbelshaw.co.uk
They were also played live in the Phonic FM studios whilst this interview was conducted.
Music media installation works have been experienced at the Exeter Fringe Festival in 2002, the Bristol Community Festival at Ashton Court, Boston Tea party, The Exeter Library, plus pubs, cafes and galleries.
One of Simon’s most intriguing pieces is a visual media piece using a string quartet and sound clips from the Apollo mission transmissions:-
‘Between the Moon and the Earth’ was composed for the ‘Exeter Contemporary Sounds‘; it was first performed in November 2001 at the Boston Tea Party in Exeter but more recently to mark the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing, It was performed again at Exeter Central Library, Castle Street, Exeter to much praise.
Simon was a great guest on Phonic Fm please check his website out and play with his music machines!!
