Many of the 250,000 Asian Americans in San Francisco are chronic HBV carriers or are unvaccinated and at risk, particularly those who are first-generation immigrants or who were born before the mandatory vaccination of newborn infants. For a variety of reasons, screening, vaccinating, and treating this population continue to present challenges to the healthcare community.
