Phil Adler at Large

Dr. Phil Adler, Professor Emeritus of Strategic Management at the College of Management, committed his professional life to Georgia Tech. A retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Adler has taught management theory, personnel management and systems theory, organizational design, research and development, and public relations.

Adler's experiences include working with the Department of Education during Jimmy Carter's term as governor of Georgia, and then working with the governor's Management Development Committee. Adler worked directly with Jody Powell and often involved his GA Tech. students in projects.

When Carter was elected president, Adler became organization advisor to the White House Press Office. Adler developed the only course at Georgia Tech in public relations. As any graduate of that class can testify, that doesn't mean "PR." During the past 30 years, Adler said the role of public relations "has not changed one bit--but I make a big differential between public relations and PR. "I look at public relations literally as a relationship between people where all parties benefit," Adler said.

During his 31-year teaching career at Georgia Tech, Dr. Phil Adler Jr. earned some of the rarest accolades in academia-those of students. ANAK recognized him with its Distinguished Professor Award, Alpha Kappa Psi presented him its Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Technique named him one of the top 10 professors at Georgia Tech.

As Professor Emeritus, Dr. Adler chairs the grievance process for the University and continues to be sought after by former students and alumni as a mentor and advisor.
